For Immediate Release

September 22th, 2021

As a new school year commences and students begin to return to the classroom, high school students can learn about starting a business and career opportunities in tech through Junior Achievement’s Company Program.

In partnership with Junior Achievement, The Tech Effect will be leading a company program focused on introducing students to opportunities in marketing and tech.

Junior Achievement’s Company Program is an after-school program created for high school students to start and run their own businesses. With the help of a student group and volunteer mentors, students will create, manage, and liquidate a business in 18 weeks.

“As an advisor, this will be my fourth year involved in the Junior Achievement company program, it truly is an experience like no other that exposes youth to the world of entrepreneurship and helps them build skills that will help them throughout their careers,” says Kareem Perez, Founder of The Tech Effect.

He continues, “When it comes to business ideas and technology, our youth have the inspirational ideas and energy to challenge the status quo and come up with ways to adapt to social, environmental, and economic changes.  It’s a great opportunity for students to share their ideas while developing their professional skills and building their network. Our aim is to provide access and opportunities to youth in diverse and underrepresented communities, who may not have had exposure to tech and business pathways like their peers.”

JA’s Company Program is an experience like no other! Students get to join a group of like-minded high school students to start and run a business, make some amazing friends, and learn all about the world of work.

Together with their team, students will discover the fascinating, dynamic world of entrepreneurship. From setting up a business, creating their own product, and promoting their company, to learning teamwork, creativity, and networking – students will develop all the skills they need to plan their exciting future.

How does it work?

Company Program is a free and inclusive opportunity for students in grades 9-12 across Central Ontario. Generous corporate partners throughout the community not only provide the funding for the program but also – and most importantly – employees from their organization also act as Advisors to shape and support students throughout their journey.

Students join a group of like-minded students who will, under the guidance of expert Advisors, create, manage, and liquidate a business in 18 weeks. They will use real money, real products, and have real customers.

Company Program gives student participants important real-world experience; helping to build their confidence and pushing them to go beyond what they think is possible.
